The mandatory long-gun registry could soon become a thing of the past. On Feb. 9, Gary Breitkreuz, Conservative Member of Parliament for Saskatchewan's Yorkton-Melville riding, introduced a private member's bill to abolish the controversial registry. The registry, which was projected to cost $2 million when established by the then-Liberal government in 1995, was aimed at curbing gun crime.
