Virginia Rejects Bill to Close Gun Show Loophole for Private Sales

The Virginia Senate rejected a bill on Wednesday requiring background checks for private sales at gun shows, dealing another in a series of blows to the legislative agenda of Gov. Tim Kaine.
The defeat, by a vote of 19 to 21, came a day after the Senate voted to repeal a law that Mr. Kaine, a Democrat, had supported that prohibits anyone from carrying concealed weapons into a club or restaurant where alcohol is served.
