Researchers at Surrey University have pioneered a technique of marking ammunition with sticky pollen from the oriental lily (lilium orientale) and the white trumpet lily (Lilium longiflorum), which sticks to the hands of those who handle the cartridges. The tags are invisible to the naked eye, but they can be detected by swabs and microscopes and could potentially link someone who had handled bullets with casings found at the scene of a shooting.
