The co-sponsor of Chicago's 1983 handgun freeze said Tuesday that the ordinance has been a sham, throwing his weight behind a long-stalled plan to reopen handgun registration in the city.
"Jane Byrne got a bug up her nose when the pope got shot, and that's what we're living with today," said Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th), former chairman of the City Council's Police Committee.
