Local Jewish organizations have stressed their continued support for gun control measures in light of the Supreme Court's decision in late June on the case District of Columbia v. Heller. In the 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court ruled in late June that the District of Columbia could not ban owning handguns for self-defense.
