This year, 14 people have been shot in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. An additional 24 were gunned down in Manhattan's Washington Heights. Fifteen were shot in the South Bronx. In a disturbing trend, shootings in the city are up dramatically this year. Even as the NYPD was boasting about an increase in gun arrests, it announced a new effort yesterday to get firearms off the streets.
