WASHINGTON — Seeking to put new pressure on the Bush administration and Congress, U.S. airline pilots have launched a grass-roots petition to carry guns in the cockpit to increase security after the September 11 attacks. Unions representing 120,000 commercial pilots are collecting signatures on their websites from pilots and the public to bolster their argument that the best way to protect the cockpit from unwanted intrusion is to allow them to carry guns.
