America is, by all accounts, a violent nation. Oh, we're not as bad off as places like Colombia, with a homicide rate in a 2002 report of 84.4 deaths per 100,000 population, or El Salvador, at 50.2. But we're not very close to the bottom, either. The same report quoted above listed homicide rates of 0.7 for Slovenia, or 0.9 for Austria.
