Warring Tribesmen Say They Want to Negotiate

Warring tribes around the township of Mendi, Southern Highlands Province, have told police they want to negotiate peace and restore services in the provincial capital.
The tribal fight involved 6,000 warriors from both sides between the Winjamap and the Tungujip tribes, lasting three weeks and claiming more than 50 lives and thousands of kina worth of property either lost or damaged.
