Regulation of Automatic Assault Weapons
Definition and Selection Criteria

Legal restrictions on the civilian possession of fully automatic or selective-fire assault weapons.

Although ‘assault weapon’ and ‘assault rifle’ are now contentious terms often disowned by those who created them, both were originally coined by arms manufacturers and the military, then widely used by the gun industry world-wide to describe, popularise and sell civilian-legal variants of military weapons.
