El Ministerio del Interior es competente conforme al Decreto Legislativo 1135, Ley de Organización y Funciones del Ministerio del Interior. La SUCAMEC es competente conforme al Decreto Legislativo 1127, Decreto Legislativo que crea la Superintendencia Nacional de Control de Servicios de Seguridad, Armas, Municiones y Explosivos de Uso Civil - SUCAMEC.
