Many of the small arms that have been intercepted and confiscated point to Russia as another major source of supply. Some of these weapons were left over from past conflicts in Indochina (Cambodia and Vietnam), but there are signs that new Russian small arms are also in circulation…

Cambodian weapons originate from left over caches of the war against Vietnam as well as continued Khmer Rouge insurgency which had made the country a "killing field" from the mid 1970s until early 1990s. Last year's coup, the ensuing violence and the breakdown of the UN peace-building mission may not have changed these conditions.
