Red Argentina para el Desarme (RAD):

…En Noviembre de 2004 se formó la Red Argentina para el Desarme (RAD), actualmente conformada por las organizaciones: Espacios (Mendoza), el Instituto de Estudios Comparados en Ciencias Penales y Sociales (INECIP), La Comuna (Rosario), la Fundación Lebensohn, La Fundación Alfredo Marcenac (Necochea) la Asociación para Políticas Publicas (APP), Fundaci6n Marcenac, Dante Piccfoll y otros familiares de víctimas.

Entre el 2007 y el 2009 el Plan de Desarme logro recolectar 107,488 armas de fuego y 774,500 municiones, el 8.5% del total de armas registradas en manos de usuarios civiles. Las organizaciones y expertos de la sociedad civil no sólo impulsaron el Programa, junto a las nuevas políticas vinculadas al control de armas, sino que también colaboraron activamente en el diseño, implementación y monitoreo del mismo. En particular, en la diagramación del conjunto de la estructura normativa del plan, en la facilitación de la coordinación con otras agencias, y en la redacción de los borradores de las normas, entre otras casas. Además, fue crucial la participación de la Red como agente observador y monitor en los procesos de destrucción y fundición de las armas recolectadas. La totalidad de las armas recolectadas fueron destruidas en ceremonia pública con la presencia de la sociedad civil.

Es de resaltar que las organizaciones si bien trabajaron muy activamente, se vieron superadas por la falta de recursos necesarios para promover y efectuar un
seguimiento de un plan de alcance nacional…

…In November 2004 the Argentine Network for Disarmament (RAD) was formed. Current member organisations include: Spaces (Mendoza), the Institute for Comparative Studies in Criminal and Social Sciences (INECIP), La Commune (Rosario), the Lebensohn Foundation, Alfredo Marcenac Foundation (Necochea) Association for Public Policy (APP), Marcenac Foundation, Dante Piccfoll and other relatives of victims.

Between 2007 and 2009, the Disarmament Plan managed to collect 107,488 firearms and 774,500 rounds of ammunition, with 8.5% of registered weapons in the hands of civilian users. Organizations and civil society experts not only promoted the program, along with new policies related to gun control, but also actively collaborated in the design, implementation and monitoring of it. Particularly, the layout of the regulatory plan in facilitating the coordination with other agencies and the wording of the draft standards. Also crucial was the participation of the Network as an observer in the processes of the destruction and melting of the weapons collected. All the collected weapons were destroyed in a public ceremony attended by civil society.

It is noteworthy that although organizations are very active, they were overcome by the lack of resources to promote and conduct monitoring of a national plan…
