Seizure and Destruction

All firearms, ammunition and explosives seized by the Police are now stored at the National Arsenal and are kept there during the course of criminal investigations and judicial processes. Once such processes are finished, judicial authorities determine if the weapons are transferred to the State or returned to owners.

Many of the firearms, ammunition and explosives transferred to the State are later destroyed. UN officials are invited as observers to the destructions.

It is important to note that the Ministry of Public Security will soon hold, for the third time, the destruction of approximately fifteen hundred firearms. An additional contribution in the struggle for the eradication of the illicit trafficking of such materials.
