Establishment of Accurate and Comprehensive Records for All Marked Small Arms and Light Weapons Within the Territory

Ivorian legislation provides for two registries, one for individuals and one for dealers.

- Individual registry: There is a registration and traceability procedure in connection with the issuance of purchase authorizations and licences to bear arms. It provides for the recording of the purchaser's name, occupation, position, and home address, the number and date of the licence and the characteristics of the weapon (type, make, calibre, number, smooth-bore or rifled, etc.).

- Dealer registry: Dealers must keep a special daily log numbered and initialed on each page by the Minister responsible for the implementation of the regulations or his representative. This log is used to record the type, make, calibre and number of each weapon sold, the name, occupation and home address of each purchaser and the date and number of the purchase or import authorization.

The preliminary draft decree prepared in Grand-Bassam in May 2005 provides for the establishment of a databank centralizing all information on small arms and light weapons nationwide. This will involve the collection and exchange of all pertinent information on small arms and light weapons in all their aspects among national and local authorities.
