Artículo 37. Permiso Especial

Article 37. Special Licence

To carry permitted firearms for personal defence, in cases of proven urgency, individuals will need a special licence issued by the Arms and Explosives Control Department.

The licence may be granted only when the life of the authorised person is reasonably exposed to danger for as long as the danger lasts. Also, when public servants need an arm for protection due to the nature of their duties.

This permit will be valid for one year and may be revoked for safety reasons or because the circumstances under which it was granted, changed.

This special permit is not required by members of the Supreme Powers, police officers responsible for drug control and the Judicial Police, although they must have a gun carrying licence.

[In Costa Rica, the Supreme Powers are the Presidency, the Legislative Assembly, the Supreme Court of Justice and the Supreme Electoral Court]
