El 2 de febrero de 2006 se realizó la primera destrucción de armas de fuego por parte de la Corte Suprema de Justicia, esta fue la primera destrucción de armas de fuego que se desarrolló en el país.

Fueron destruidas 501 armas de fuego, entre escopetas, rifles y pistolas en un acto público realizado en el parque central al frente de la Catedral Metropolitanta de la ciudad de Guatemala. … En el evento participó la Comisión Nacional para la Erradicación de Armas Ilegales, la cual proporcionó la aplanadora para la destrucción de 265 revólveres, 155 pistolas, 25 escopetas, 6 carabinas, 2 fusiles y 48 rifles.

On 2 February 2006 the Supreme Court organised the first destruction of firearms ever held in Guatemala. 501 firearms were destroyed in a public ceremony held in the central park in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Guatemala City. The National Commission on small arms participated in the event. The arms (265 revolvers, 155 pistols, 25 shotguns, 6 carbines and 50 rifles) were destroyed by crushing.
