Executive Summary

Zambia remains committed to the implementation of the United Nations Program of Action (UNPoA) to prevent combat and eradicate the illicit trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in all its aspects agreed upon at the United Nations Headquarter by Member States in July 2001.

The problem of SALW in Zambia is mainly based on the political liberation struggles of the neighbouring countries. Further the Zambia's geopolitical position makes border policing difficulty in relation to the unregulated global trade in SALW.

As a developing Country, Zambia welcomed implementation of the UNPoA, is determined to cooperation on all International, Regional and Sub-regional on SALW.
