Measures Taken by the Government

8. The Government has established a coast guard authority responsible for preventing international arms smuggling networks from using Yemeni territorial waters and coasts as a staging post in small arms and light weapons smuggling operations or from infiltrating new consignments thereof into the country. The coast guard also monitors the coastal strip. There have been several cases where ships carrying arms into Somalia have been intercepted. Perpetrators were arrested and tried: notifications of such cases was given at the time.

9. As part of Security Council efforts to suppress arms-related activity, the Government has seized large quantities of arms destined for Somalia and intended for illicit trafficking.
