Measures Taken by the Government with a View to Implementing the Programme Include the Following:

5. A programme has been carried out to collect arms, ammunition and explosives from the population and payment has been and continues to be made for large quantities thereof. Over a period of nine years, committees formed in order to purchase arms from citizens expended some $30 million. Those arms were destroyed and their destruction documented. Over the past year, 350 tons of explosives and ammunition have been destroyed.
