According to the National Suicide Research Foundation, 8,547 suicides were recorded in Ireland between January 1st 1980 and December 31st 2003…

In that time 725 people committed suicide using a firearm, 30 people on average every year (SD = 8.9, max = 50, min = 14). The vast majority of these were male (n = 681).
