The total number of registered firearm license-holders in BiH grew by 26.3%, from 193,274 in 2012 to 244,174 by 2016. The number of firearm license-holders increased in all administrative areas over the five-year period, particularly in the Zenica-Doboj (97.2%), Tuzla (34.3%) and Herzegovina Neretva (32.5%) cantons. Brčko District experienced a reduction in the number of firearm license holders from 5,394 in 2012 to 4,224 by 2016, a decrease of 21.7% over the five-year period.

While the number of firearm license-holders for category B firearms grew by 25.5%, from 191,799 licenses in 2012 to 240,665 by 2016, there was a 253.4% increase in the number of category C firearm license-holders, from 700 in 2012 to 2,474 by 2016. The number of category D firearm license-holders also increased by 33.5%, from 775 in 2012 to 1,035 by 2016.

The total number of female firearm license-holders across BiH increased marginally over this period, from 1.3% of all license-holders in 2012 to 1.5% by 2016. Firearm license possession across the five-year period remained male-dominated, particularly for category C and D weapons, for which the license-holders were almost 100% male.
