Between 2012 and 2016, there were 2,829 cases of illegal possession of firearms. A total of 6,826 firearms were confiscated permanently, with the annual amount fluctuating and falling overall from 1,240 in 2012 to 1,202 in 2016. The number of temporarily confiscated firearms was equal to that of permanently confiscated firearms for all years. Data on the estimated number of illicit firearms in civilian hands was not available [but can be estimated from the data below].
