L'autorisation n'est accordée qu'aux personnes satisfaisant aux conditions suivantes:

9) justifier d'un motif légitime pour l'acquisition (et la détention) de l'arme concernée et des munitions. Le type de l'arme doit correspondre au motif pour lequel elle a été demandée. Ces motifs légitimes sont, dans des conditions à déterminer par le Roi par arrêté délibéré en Conseil des Ministres:
a) la chasse et des activités de gestion de la faune;
b) le tir sportif et récréatif;
c) (l'exercice d'une activité présentant des risques particuliers ou nécessitant la détention d'une arme à feu);
d) la défense personnelle de personnes qui courent un risque objectif et important et qui démontrent en outre que la détention d'une arme à feu diminue ce risque important dans une large mesure et peut les protéger;
e) l'intention de constituer une collection d'armes historiques;
f) la participation à des activités historiques, folkloriques, culturelles ou scientifiques.

Article 11. §3.

Authorization is only granted to persons who meet the following conditions:

9) justify a legitimate reason for the acquisition (and possession) of the weapon concerned and the ammunition. The type of weapon must correspond to the reason for which it was requested. These legitimate reasons are, under conditions to be determined by the King by decree deliberated in the Council of Ministers:
a) hunting and wildlife management activities;
b) sport and recreational shooting;
c) (the exercise of an activity presenting particular risks or requiring the possession of a firearm);
d) the personal defense of persons who run an objective and significant risk and who furthermore demonstrate that the possession of a firearm decreases this significant risk to a large extent and can protect them;
e) the intention to build up a collection of historic weapons;
f) participation in historical, folkloric, cultural or scientific activities.
