During 2018/2019, the details of 7,141 firearms owned by individuals, dealers and institutions, excluding SAPS-owned firearms, were circulated as recovered, compared to 18,592 firearms, in 2017/2018.

The details of 9,609 firearms were circulated as stolen/lost, during 2018/2019, compared to 9,336, in 2017/2018 and the details of 452 state-owned firearms were circulated as recovered, compared to 469, in 2017/2018. The 452 include 362 SAPS-owned firearms and 90 firearms owned by other official institutions, such as government departments, municipalities and the Metropolitan Police Department.

A total of 607 SAPS-owned firearms were circulated as stolen/lost, compared to 800, in 2017/2018[…]
