Editor's note: based on the results of this survey, GunPolicy.org estimates that there are approximately 238,861 privately owned firearms in Liberia (5.09 per 100 population), composed of 65,144 handguns (1.39 per 100 population), 162,860 shotguns (3.47 per 100 population), and 10,857 rifles (0.23 per 100 population.
These figures are calculated based on the 2017 population of Liberia (4,689,021). With the ownership percentage of the survey (21.4% - or 403 individuals with 436 weapons), there are about 1,003,350 owners with 1,085,733 weapons between them (including bladed weapons). The above figures are extrapolated from the survey's indication of firearm types (6% handguns, 15% shotguns, 1% rifles).
