As at 2 May 2019, there are 244,425 people who hold an active standard firearms licence (this does not include visitor licences). Of these, 236,937 people do not have an endorsement to hold a MSSA, pistol, or restricted weapon [Editor's note: by this number there are 7,488 endorsees]. There is no way of knowing how many firearms are possessed by these 236,937 licence holders.

The number of new pistols, MSSAs, and restricted weapons currently held by active endorsement holders is shown below. Note that E endorsement was revoked by a legislation change on 12 April 2019 and all MSSAs are held under amnesty.

The number of seized firearms by financial year is shown below.
