During 2016–17, the Firearms Policy and Recording Unit processed:
- 5,326 firearms licences and
- 6,926 permits to acquire a firearm.

Operation Autour commenced in 2016 to improve the regulatory compliance of firearm owners and continued during 2016–17.

Since 1 July 2016, Operation Autour has accounted for 5,256 firearms in the possession of people with expired licences, with a further 640 firearms and 7,500 rounds of ammunition also seized.
