The Igarape Institute's Homicide Monitor is the most comprehensive publicly available dataset on murder in the world. It is a data-driven data visualization platform designed to show the distribution, dimensions and dynamics of homicidal violence in an interactive and accessible manner. Since homicidal violence is concentrated in the Americas, the Monitor includes additional information on North, Central and South America at the national, state and city scale.

GunPolicy.org relies on the Homicide Monitor for accurate coverage of homicides in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). All of this data is sourced either directly from government record-keeping bodies or from reputable independent national monitors that collect data on homicides in their respective countries.
