21. General Restriction Upon Carrying Firearms and Ammunition in Public

(1) A person shall not carry any firearm or ammunition in any public place unless at the time when he or she carries such firearm or ammunition he or she has about his or her person a licence, certificate or permit granted by the appropriate authority,1 authorising him or her to carry such firearm or ammunition in such place and, if such place is a place to which section 22 applies,2 a Firearm User's (Special) Permit authorising him or her to carry such firearm or ammunition in such place on such occasion.

(2) Every person who contravenes sub-section (1) commits an offence, and on summary conviction before a Magistrate, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding two thousand five hundred dollars or to imprisonment with or without hard labour for a term not less than twelve months and not exceeding three years.
