Record-Keeping by Manufacturers

4.3 Does your country require that manufacturers keep records of their activities? YES

Pursuant to subsection 58(1) of the Firearms Act, a chief firearms officer1 may attach any reasonable condition on a business licence in the interest of public safety. These conditions may include the requirement for businesses to keep written records of restricted and prohibited firearms2 relating to the manufacture, assembly, possession, purchase, sale, importation, exportation, display, repair, restoration, maintenance, storage, alteration, pawnbroking, transportation, shipping, distribution or delivery of these items. Manufacturers are required to register their restricted and prohibited firearms.

The Canadian firearms registry keeps records of these registrations indefinitely.
