Artículo 4. Banco de datos balístico

El Banco de datos balístico de la DIGECAM está conformado por un banco físico de las huellas balísticas y un banco digital de las mismas.

La huella balística está conformada por la ojiva y vaina o cascabillo producto de la prueba balística realizada a cada arma de fuego en la DIGECAM. De la que se obtendrá dos (2) huellas balísticas, de las cuales una será remitida por la DIGECAM al Gabinete de Identificación de la Dirección General de la Policía Nacional Civil.

La DIGECAM, el Gabinete de Identificación de la Dirección General de la Policía Nacional Civil, el Ministerio Público y el Instituto de Ciencias Forenses de Guatemala –INACIF-, tendrán acceso al banco digital de huellas balísticas para los casos de investigación donde se involucren armas de fuego, de acuerdo al procedimiento que se establezca entre las instituciones, el cual debe contener sistemas de seguridad y control efectivos.

Article 4. Bank of Ballistic Data

The ballistic data Bank of DIGECAM consists of a physical and digital bank of ballistic fingerprints.

Ballistic fingerprinting consists of tests on the bullet and case or husk on every firearm placed in the DIGECAM. Two (2) ballistic fingerprints are obtained, one of which shall be sent by DIGECAM to the Identification Office of the General Directorate of the National Civil Police.

DIGECAM, the Identification Office of the General Directorate of the National Civil Police, the Public Prosecutor and the Institute of Forensic Sciences of Guatemala (INACIF) shall have access to the digital bank of ballistic fingerprints for cases involving firearms, in accordance with procedures established between institutions, which must include effective security and control systems.
