The number of registered firearms in Argentina amounts to 1,639,293, according to the National Agency for Controlled Materials (Anmac), created in 2015 to replace the National Directorate of the National Registry of Weapons, formerly Renar. But Inecip – which is part of the Anmac Consultative Council – maintains that official data must be duplicated, for which it warns that in reality there are "between 3 and 4 million weapons" in the country.

(…) Despite the large number of firearms circulating on the streets of Argentina, only 30% of users are registered, according to Anmac. The official body reports that there are 1,016,843 users authorized by the State in 2019, but warns that 70% of users have some irregularity. Therefore, there are currently 711,000 users who have expired weapons carrying credentials.

(…) In recent years, the number of official figures of registered weapons has been increasing. As reported by Anmac to journalistic sources, in 2016 there were 1.2 million registered weapons; in 2017 1.5; and in 2019 it reached 1.6 million. While the number of users is also increasing: according to Anmac there were 715,075 in 2014; 852,005 in 2015, 807,698 in 2016; 988,433 in 2017; and 1,011,369 in 2018.
