A police officer who was allegedly harassing members of the public in Siakago town last weekend by cocking his gun and threatening to shoot them is facing disciplinary measures.

Reliable sources told the star that the officer who was armed with an AK47 rifle was guarding the Cooperative Bank in Siakago town when he began harassing members of public.

The sources said he would now and then sneak into a nearby bar and drink beer before going back to his station. Residents called the police hotline number and reported the officer's conduct to the OCS.

The OCS accompanied by several police officers ambushed the errant officer and disarmed him before arresting him and confining him at the Siakago police station.

Eastern Provincial Police Officer Marchus Ochola said the officer's intoxication while at work was dangerous and amounted to indiscipline.

"The police officer was working while drunk. He was endangering the lives of members of the public until the OCS went to remove him after a tip off by members of the public. This is an indiscipline case which we are dealing with internally," said Ochola

Siakago residents told the star that they called the OCS because they still had memories of October 7 2010 when police officer Peter Karanja went on shooting spree killing ten in a night.

Karanja was taken to court but his case was dismissed when he was sent to the then Mathare Mental Hospital after a medical report indicated that he was insane.

According to witnesses Karanja was on sentry duty at the Mbeere North DC's residence when he excused himself from his two colleagues to answer a call of nature and instead went to three bars and shot bar workers and patrons at random.
