Japan has been one of the lead actors in the 2001 UN Program of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA). It has donated substantial sums of money for various weapons collection programs worldwide, most notably, more than US$10 million for programs in Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Sierra Leone.
