A report by the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) has found 1,570 firearms were stolen in 620 incidents in 2008-09. The National Firearm Theft Monitoring Report said only three per cent of these guns were used to commit an offence, or were stolen by someone charged with a serious criminal offence. The most commonly stolen firearms were rifles, followed by shotguns. Nearly a quarter of people (24 per cent) who reported a stolen firearm had not stored it... (GunPolicy.org)

A member of the Pacific Small Arms Action Group says the proliferation of home-made guns in Papua New Guinea is out of control and requires a multi-agency approach to deal with it.
