TRENTON — County and state prosecutors are not considered law enforcement officers under New Jersey's strict gun laws that allow retired cops to carry weapons, an appellate panel ruled today. The decision by the three-judge panel upholds a lower court's finding that Giles Casaleggio, a former assistant prosecutor in Union, Passaic and Morris counties before becoming a deputy attorney general, does not qualify for a gun permit as a retired law enforcement... U.S. District Court Judge Morrison England Jr. in Sacramento supported a policy by Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto that says applicants must have a reason, such as a safety... (GunPolicy.org)

Walking into Los Guerreros restaurant off Main Street in LaFayette, Ga., to grab some food on his day off recently, Denny Rayes stiffened when he saw that the man in front of him had a gun strapped to his side. "It made me think, 'I wish I was wearing mine,'" said Rayes, a LaFayette police officer and resident. For nearly a year it has been legal for people with concealed-carry permits to wear their weapons in plain sight as long as they are holstered. But it still... (GunPolicy.org)

MARK FIORINO'S story has three elements that tend to get people worked up - gun rights, Philly police and YouTube. On a mild February afternoon, Fiorino, 25, decided to walk to an AutoZone on Frankford Avenue in Northeast Philly with the .40-caliber Glock he legally owns holstered in plain view on his left hip. His stroll ended when someone called out from behind: "Yo, Junior, what are you doing?" Fiorino wheeled and saw Sgt. Michael Dougherty aiming a handgun at... (GunPolicy.org)
