The NSW government says it will support any local government that moves to outlaw gun shops being opened in the vicinity of schools. But after residents of a Sydney suburb on Wednesday made known their anger at plans for a sporting gun shop opposite a pre-school, Planning Minister Frank Sartor ruled out a statewide ban, saying it remained a local council issue. Ku-ring-gai Council has granted approval for a Roseville Chase gun shop that will open within two months,... (GunPolicy.org)

Up in arms would accurately describe the incensed reaction of Roseville residents to news that a gunshop is to open in their midst. Last night hundreds were expected to pack a community hall to protest against the approval granted by Ku-ring-gai Council, apparently without notification to those who may have an opinion about such an enterprise. Andrew Peter, a gun enthusiast and coffee shop owner from Bondi Junction, made an application last month to turn an old... (GunPolicy.org)

When discussions turn to gun control, they usually involve weapons that are supposed to pack a deadly punch. But as a children's hospital in the Dayton area has learned during the summer, BB guns placed in the hands of young children can sometimes create dangerous situations as well. Children's Medical Center of Dayton has treated five children in the past month for BB gun injuries — nearly half the total annual BB or pellet gun injuries the center saw over the... The "Iron Pipeline" of Interstate 95 remains alive and deadly, as a new federal study grimly confirms. Saddest of all is the evidence that some of the most far-reaching shady gun marts continue to operate in the state of Virginia, where the suicidal Virginia Tech student shot 32 people to death only four months ago. Virginia dealers have been a standout source for guns used in crimes up and down the seaboard, according to the federal study. They accounted for half of... (GunPolicy.org)

The man, who was not identified pending notification of next of kin, had apparently arrived alone at the store around 1 p.m. and rented a .40 caliber handgun to shoot at targets, according to Royal Oak Police Lt. David Clemens. "It's a self-inflicted... (GunPolicy.org)

A gun confiscated in a traffic stop led to the conviction Monday of an alleged gang enforcer who killed a man in 1995 but escaped arrest for nearly 10 years. Samuel Coggs was convicted in a bench trial Monday by Judge Dennis Porter and faces sentencing Sept. 26, prosecutors said. The 9mm handgun that Coggs used in the 1995 murder of Keith Blumenberg was seized in a 2003 traffic stop. A federal database, the Integrated Ballistics Information System, matched the gun to... BROOKLYN — As presidential rumors circulate, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's fight against gun dealers in five states — Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania — has ignited a debate over states' rights. NYPD statistics show 90 percent of guns used in crimes can be traced to out-of-state sales, so the city dispatched private investigators to make "straw purchases" from retailers whose guns were recovered in crimes here. In an illegal straw sale, one... (GunPolicy.org)
