Nine Years On, UK National Gun Register Delayed Again

Technical problems have once again delayed the national firearms register, nine years after it was first proposed (Computing, 27 July).
The National Firearms Licensing Management System (NFLMS) is intended to provide a searchable, national register of all firearms certificate holders.
But trials of the troubled system were suspended at the end of last year when they encountered data quality problems.

SPRINGFIELD — In a preview of today's State of the State address, which also is expected to be a preview of his re-election campaign strategy, Gov. Rod Blagojevich renewed his call Tuesday for a statewide assault weapons ban.

Feds Bag Massachusetts Hunter Selling Illegal Guns on Web Site

Federal investigators say they have linked "criminal activity" to weapons sold by a Norton hunter whose "We Are Guns" Web site was allegedly doing a bang-up business in illegal arms sales until he was busted last Thursday.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Glenn MacKinlay declined to say how many weapons or which towns they wound up in because their investigation into Richard Feinberg, 56, remains open.

The Sierra Leone Action Network on Small Arms (SLANSA) will today formally launch the Sierra Leone Report on the impact of arms transfer, at the conference hall of the Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL).
The report is jointly compiled by the Control Arms Campaign, Oxfam International, Amnesty International and International Action Network on Small Arms. In addition a press conference will form part of the launching ceremony.

A bill sponsored by the Republicans expands the circumstances during which a person can use deadly force in self-defense.

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — The Connecticut factory that produced the Winchester rifle, celebrated in cowboy movies as the gun frontiersmen used to settle the American West, is shutting down after 140 years in New Haven.

DAVISON Township — Guns have been stolen from another Mid-Michigan gun shop. Three stores have been broken into in a little over a month, first in Saginaw and Gladwin County, and now Genesee County.
