United Nations Conference Chair Labels Small Arms the Real WMD

UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations argues that small arms — including assault rifles, grenade launchers and sub-machine guns — are primarily responsible for much of the death and destruction in conflicts throughout the world.
But despite the availability of over 600 million small arms in open and underground markets, there is no international treaty to control the reckless proliferation of these light weapons worldwide.

Florida Police Seek Tougher Gun Laws After 2 Hit by Stray Bullets

DELRAY BEACH — Police officials have asked legislators to strengthen gun laws after two people were hurt by stray bullets during the city's First Night celebration.
Although police are still looking for whomever was responsible for firing those gunshots into the air, officials said it would have been difficult for an officer to make an arrest that night unless he actually saw someone fire a gun.

Mississippi Moves to Pass 'Make My Day' Gun Bill

Four bills pending in the Legislature would broaden the right for people to shoot trespassers in their homes, cars or businesses.
Senate Judiciary A Committee Chairman Charlie Ross, R-Brandon, who co-authored Senate Bill 2426, said the legislation will take the burden of proof off of victims of burglaries or carjackings who use deadly force.
"Anytime someone threatens you or attacks you, you do not have to retreat, you can stand your ground," Ross said.
