UCLA Professors Resign Over Gun Drama

LOS ANGELES — Two tenured art professors have resigned from the University of California, Los Angeles, because the school refused to suspend a graduate student who may have used a gun during a classroom performance art piece.
Chris Burden and Nancy Rubins, internationally known artists who taught at UCLA for more than two decades, filed their retirement papers Dec. 20.

LISBON — A man shot dead three people, including his wife, in in northern Portugal before turning the gun on himself, the daily newspaper Correio da Manha reported Saturday.
The incident left the remote community of Sao Xisto with only three elderly survivors, two women and a man, who all said they now plan to move.

SURAT — The arrest of two alleged arms dealers by the local crime branch (LCB) from Kim in Surat district last week, in addition to similar arrests recently, could be an indicator of how a network of arms peddlers from other states were making a killing in Surat.

Lawmakers Aim to Repeal Maryland Ballistics Law

Maryland lawmakers yesterday submitted a measure to repeal a state law requiring state police to collect ballistics information on every handgun sold in the state.
The bill — sponsored by Dels. Joan Cadden (D-Anne Arundel), Norman H. Conway (D-Wicomico) and Michael D. Smigiel Sr. (R-Cecil) — would nullify a landmark measure passed in 2000 that requires handgun manufacturers to test-fire all handguns sold in Maryland and send the spent shell casings to the state... All we hear on the news is how many murders are committed in our cities day in and day out. In my area, Chester, a very small community, mainly minority, or should I say black and Hispanic, we are having murders every day. But what's the tragedy about these murders?
