Crime Guns Making Long Journey to San Francisco

Guns are flooding into the hands of local criminals from across the nation, with weapons originating in Massachusetts and Utah being found at local crime scenes, San Francisco police say.
A study tracing 25 guns seized from crime scenes and unregistered owners over the past two months found that the weapons had traveled thousands of miles.

Leaders Give Up Guns, Not Goons

BAGUIO CITY, Benguet — Abra Gov. Vicente Valera, the province's mayors and members of the militia Cordillera People's Liberation Army, have agreed to surrender their firearms in two weeks to the police, Chief Supt. Rowland Albano, Cordillera police director, said on Tuesday.
But no politicians made any commitment about turning over members of their private armies to authorities, Albano said in a press conference.

A new policy that seeks to control how guns are to be issued will infringe on individual liberties, claims a human rights activist.
He termed it as a misdirected effort.

Government Faces Court Challenge on Gun Registry

Gun shop owners are taking the police to court in a bid to get information on the workings of the central firearm registry.
This comes in the wake of reports that no legal firearms have been sold in South Africa since the new and tougher firearms act came into force on July 1.
Safety and Security Ministry spokesperson Leslie Xinwa also confirmed on Tuesday that there was a backlog of more than 10 000 appeals against refusal of firearms licence applications.

Indiana Lawmaker Seeks to Overturn Capitol's Gun Laws

WASHINGTON — Rep. Mark Souder, R-Ind., might not seem the most obvious person to try to overturn gun laws in the nation's capital.
Souder doesn't live in Washington. And he doesn't own a gun for either hunting or protection, despite having been robbed at gunpoint just outside Washington in 1997.
But he does have a fierce commitment to gun rights.
