Criminals are becoming more willing to shoot people, according to officials figures released today. The number of offences in which a firearm was fired and killed or injured a person in Scotland rose to 348 in 2001 — an increase of 14 per cent compared to the previous year when there were 306. Gun crime in Scotland has shown a massive increase, according to new figures. Firearms crime, using guns other than airweapons, were used in 517 cases in 2001, compared to 370 the previous year . The increase is thought to be due to more fake weapons or threats of weapons rather than any evidence of more actual guns in use.
