Feelings Run Deep at State Capitol Rally

Rosa Chavez and Bob Glass come from very different places on gun control. And they both came to the state Capitol on Monday to let their feelings be known.
Glass, who publishes the pro-gun Patriot magazine in Longmont, came armed with a sign to wave at gun-control supporters. South Africa Police Net 40 Illegal Weapons in KwaZulu-Natal Anti-crime Blitz

NEWCASTLE — Police and soldiers are continuing an anti-crime sweep in northern KwaZulu-Natal that began last week, and have so far confiscated one machine gun and 39 other illegal weapons, African Eye News Service (South Africa) reports.
The operation began in the Tugela Ferry and Pomeroy areas last Thursday, and on Tuesday it was being extended to include Helpmekaar and Ekuvukeni.

Heston Delivers Pep Talk at Legislature

Actor Charlton Heston did not mention guns during his invocation before the state House of Representatives on Monday.
Instead, the president of the National Rifle Association railed against political correctness and urged lawmakers to "take the uphill road" as leaders like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. had done before them.

Maryland GOP Official Quits in Gun Flap

WESTMINSTER, Maryland — A local Republican official resigned in protest after the group decided to raffle off a gun in a fund-raising event. But organizers say ticket sales are going great.
Betty L. Smith, vice chairwoman of the GOP's Carroll County central committee, sent in her letter last week, citing the group's plan to raffle a Beretta 9 mm handgun to raise money.
