Hoping to rally voters against gun-control advocate Rep. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), the National Rifle Association (NRA) spent $160,000 on a last-minute mailing to hundreds of thousands of gun owners, the New York Daily News reported Oct. 31. The letters urge voters to support Sen. Al D'Amato (R-N.Y.) in the hotly contested Senate race. Included in the mailing was a fake newspaper with a headline reading, "Schumer Elected to U.S. Senate … Gun Ban, Confiscation Law... (GunPolicy.org)

EVANSTON, Illinois — Steven Young, whose son was shot to death by a gang member, is suing the gun industry over the death of his son, reports CBS News Correspondent Russ Mitchell. "This happened because some kid got his hands on a gun. And it wouldn't happen if it weren't so easy for these kids to get guns," says Young.
