Bulletproof vests failed to save two Mississippi police officers who were gunned down by a man armed with an assault rifle Wednesday morning, UPI reported May 6. Long Beach, Miss., police officers Jim Northcut, 54, and Steve Morgan, 34, were responding to a call about a domestic dispute when they were met by a 21-year-old armed with an assault rifle. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) says she will introduce legislation to punish adults who fail to keep their guns away from children, the Associated Press reported May 6. That has really nothing to do with what happened. We have to look further than that." (1) Jim Simon, an Arkansas gun-control opponent, agreed. "The problem isn't the guns," he said. "It's what the kids are doing with them." (2) National Rifle Association (NRA) spokesman Bill... (GunPolicy.org)

A new weapon is available to airplane hijackers, terrorists and assassins, one that is as deceptive and as easy to conceal as it is deadly. It is only three inches long and an inch wide, and has a ring on the end. It looks as innocent as a key fob. But the weapon, a pistol, can fire two shots, costs only $20 and is not detected by some metal detectors and airport X-ray machines. A Greek official said yesterday that airport security personnel seized one in Athens last... (GunPolicy.org)
