Handgun sales in Maryland dropped nearly 8 percent during the first six months of this year over the same period last year, according to statistics from the Maryland State Police. Maj. Greg Shipley, state police spokesman, said 12,780 handguns were sold in the state from January through June, compared with 13,844 in the same period a year ago.
