Australia Toughens Firearm Trafficking Sentences
25 November 2014
Herald Sun (Melbourne)
Gun traffickers will face a minimum of five years in jail after tough new laws were introduced by the Federal Government.
At present criminals caught dealing firearms face no minimum sentence.
The new laws, passed on Monday night, also establish new international trafficking offences and will make dealing in individual gun parts an offence.
Michael Keenan, the Minister for Justice, said the new laws would "better reflect the gravity of firearms trafficking".
