A government employee who walked down Sugar Mill Road on Saturday wielding an AK-47 assault rifle was sentenced this week to spend 16 months in prison and pay a $500 fine. Kelvin Smith, a 41-year-old messenger with the Passport Office, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Monday to charges of unlawful possession of explosives and carrying a prohibited weapon, a count that carries a maximum 10-year prison term.
