Senior police are alarmed at the number of firearms on Melbourne's streets.
Taskforce Santiago, set up late last year to investigate shootings between family-based amphetamine syndicates in Melbourne's north and west, has confiscated dozens of pistols since its inception.
Taskforce boss Detective Inspector Steve Dennis told the Herald Sun young criminals were arming themselves at an alarming rate.
